Read the quote below that he gave to The Ringer about that night.
On the night of the draft, Wood rented an event space at Caesar’s Palace. He invited a few dozen family and friends. “He was so excited at first,” said former UNLV coach Dave Rice. But Wood watched with horror as his name went uncalled in the first round. It wasn’t called in the second round, either. Somehow, that wasn’t the end of Wood’s misery. “I lost my girlfriend that night, too,” he said. “I dropped her off at the airport after the draft and never saw her again.”
Think about this for a moment, you are going through the worse moment in your life and now your girlfriend has added on to it. Now I know a lot of you are thinking that’s messed up for her to do that to him. And while I would agree with you, I’m not surprised by her decision. Fellas, this is why I tell you men are viewed as lottery tickets.
They also want finished products. Women want to be at the finish line waiting for the winners. They don’t want to go through the hard work and the heartaches to reach success. As men, we have to separate ourselves from the emotional trauma. Wood’s girlfriend thought at the time she was with a winner. But once he didn’t get drafted, she bailed on him quickly.
Now the joke is on her as Wood signed a 3-year $41 million contract this past offseason. How much do you guys want to bet that she has tried to reach out to him? So remember kings, just another reminder of how women view us. Wood isn’t the only ball player who has went through this and won’t be the last.
Athletes and celebrities are no different then us as those men go through some of the same stuff we go through. But a lot of them use it for motivation to push themselves to the next level. You should strive to do the same as well, but also don’t take it personal. Once you guys understand and get into this mindset, the better off you will be.
